A whole world on the strands.
Lots of soft fibers mean lots of surface for biofilm to grow naturally—giving shrimp, some fish and fry more places to graze. Easy to clean and reuse: check for eggs and animals, then gently swish in removed tank water. Discover the benefits of biofilm ↗

Reef-inspired color.
Freshwater simplicity.
Bring a reef-inspired palette to your freshwater aquarium. Mix soft pastels, vivid purples, aqua tones or natural greens to create a look that is yours.
More places to hide. More room to explore. Less upkeep. AquaNest mops add flowing color and soft structure without waiting for plants to fill in.
Color without plant die-off
No rooting, pruning or waiting for new growth. Mops will not wilt or die like plants, and can sit alongside your living aquascape.
Cover for your smallest fish
Group several mops into dense cover so livebearer fry have places to retreat from adults. Keep open swimming routes and water circulation.
Habitat you can move and reuse
Give fish places to explore and shrimp extra grazing surfaces as biofilm develops. Lift out an empty mop for easy cleaning, then reposition it.
Soft, durable, washable and reusable. Check for eggs, fry and shrimp before cleaning. For suitable egg layers, move the egg-bearing mop to a prepared hatching tank and rotate in a spare.

Choose your colors, then put the mops to work in your aquarium.
Rotate for eggs. Group for fry cover. For suitable egg layers such as rainbowfish, medaka and mop-spawning killifish, move the egg-bearing mop to a prepared hatching tank and rotate in a spare. For livebearers such as guppies, endlers, platies and mollies, group several mops into dense cover and leave them with the fish. The strands provide places to retreat, although adults may still eat some fry.

The Modern Aquarium Magazine:
“Nothing beats a spawning mop for breeding egg scattering fish.”
Designed for Breeding, Fry Safety, and Enrichment
Each AquaNest spawning mop is built to be versatile and easy to use:
- Use a floating mop for surface-hanging strands: an egg-laying surface for suitable spawners, or cover for livebearer fry
- Remove the float to create a bottom-resting breeding mop
- Position anywhere in your tank using the included suction cup
- Durable, reusable, and easy to clean between spawns
Beyond breeding, fish spawning mops also serve as habitat enrichment, providing shelter, stress reduction, and visual interest for community tanks.
Dan (the Fish Man):
“I have been using spawning mops for twenty plus years…It’s surprising how many fish prefer the mops when given a choice.”
Solid Gold Fish:
“Spawning mops are handy because they can be easily removed to a fry grow-out tank when spawning is finished, and they can be sterilized after use, unlike live plants.”
